OHIO WESLEYAN is one of the few schools in the country to offer a rich liberal arts education with a professionally oriented major in journalism. Undergraduate journalism students learn the how's and why's of their profession but also acquire a wealth of knowledge from Ohio Wesleyan's liberal arts curriculum.

Would-be journalists practice their skills from the first course onward, guided by faculty with strong academic training as well as extensive professional experience. They learn by doing as reporters and editors for The Transcript, the oldest independent student newspaper in the United States; as broadcasters and producers for WSLN, a student-run FM radio station; and as reporters specializing in public affairs programming for the public access channel on the local television franchise.

But the heart of the program consists of closely directed work in writing. Reporting, writing, and rewriting—that's what journalists do on the job. And that's what budding journalists practice extensively in our courses. They come to discover, as the best journalists have discovered before them, the power over the written word is the key to success in their chosen field.
